Tasting Notes
James Suckling 95-96
Such beautiful tannins here that are refined and beautiful and bring you deep into the medium to full body. Currants and berries. Refined.
Vinous 91-93
The 2022 Prieure-Lichine is classy and polished, with lovely aromatic brightness to match its silky, mid-weight personality. Crushed flowers, mint, blood orange and spice are nicely delineated. There’s good up-front richness, but then a bit less intensity through the mid-palate and finish. Tasted two times.
Robert Parker 91-93
Offering up generous amounts of sweet berries, orange rind and licorice, the 2022 Prieure-Lichine is medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, with a lively core of fruit that’s framed by powdery tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully firm finish. This heavily morcellated estate (amounting to some 125 different parcels) continues to benefit from a more rigorous selection and better attention to detail regarding harvest dates.
Jeb Dunnuck 91-93
The 2022 Chateau Prieure-Lichine offers a pure, vibrant bouquet of red and blue fruits as well as plenty of cedarwood, tobacco, and a hint of iron. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with nicely integrated tannins as well as outstanding overall balance, this well-made, impeccably balanced Margaux will drink nicely with just short-term cellaring. It’s easily in the same ballpark quality-wise as the 2018, 2019, and 2020, all of which are beautiful wines. Tasted twice.
The Wine Independent 93-95
The 2022 Prieure-Lichine is deep garnet-purple in color. It tumbles out with eager-to-please scents of juicy blackcurrant, Morello cherries, and black raspberries, followed by hints of cedar, violets, and black truffles. The medium to full-bodied palate is densely packed with juicy black fruit and floral accents, supported by beautifully ripe, fine-grained tannins and a refreshing backbone, finishing long and fragrant. This is a very impressive showing for Prieure-Lichine.
