Tasting Notes
Burghound 89-92
Tasting note: Here too there is a whiff of wood framing denser aromas of just crushed dark berries and forest floor. There is even better volume and concentration to the middleweight flavors that are relatively sleekly texture thanks largely to the firm but fine tannins shaping the noticeably more complex and persistent finale. Worth checking out.
Vinous 90-92
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has a delightful, mineral-driven bouquet with redcurrant, raspberry preserve and crushed stone. Quintessentially Gevrey. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, gentle grip, a nice bitter cherry undertow with a lingering saline finish. This is well worth seeking out.
Anticipated maturity: 2024-2038
Robert Parker 90+
Richer and deeper pitched, the 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes mingles aromas of wild berries and plums with hints of baking chocolate, sweet spices and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and textural, it’s layered and fleshy, with an ample core of fruit, powdery tannins and lively balancing acids.
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2043
