Tasting Notes
Burghound 92-94
Here too there is just enough reduction to blur the nuances of what appear to be ripe fruit and floral wisps. The racy, intense and delicious middle weight flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract while displaying excellent delineation on the chiseled, focused, sneaky long and youthfully austere finale. This is firmer still, and it wouldn’t surprise me if fully 20 years is necessary to resolve the supporting structure. Excellent.
Robert Parker 94-96
The 2019 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is showing very well, wafting from the glass with notes of sweet wild berries, plums, loamy soil, peonies, raw cocoa and violets. Medium to full-bodied, rich but fine-boned, it’s lively and mineral, with beautifully refined tannins and a perfumed finish. As I wrote last year, this is a Gevrey that nods to stereotypes of Chambolle in personality.
Vinous 96-98
The 2019 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is matured in one-third new oak (two of the total six). It has a very mineral-driven bouquet compared to the Charmes-Chambertin, tightly wound at first but opening with gusto, revealing wet limestone and almost flinty aromas. The palate is beautifully balanced with supple tannins, heightened mineralité compared to the Charmes and brilliant, spine-tingling tension on the finish. A fabulous, quite cerebral Ruchottes from Christophe Roumier.
Anticipated maturity: 2024-2048
