Tasting Notes
Vinous 88
The 2018 Volnay Village has a surprisingly deep and broody bouquet compared to the Auxey Village. Dark berry fruit mixed with iodine and light violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins, more savory in style, yet I find more freshness and vitality in the Auxey this year.
Anticipated maturity: 2022-2030

‘Outstanding Top Value’. A more elegant nose speaks of ripe and discreetly spicy aromas of plum liqueur, black cherry and a hint of raspberry. The caressing yet solidly energetic middle weight flavors possess very good mid-palate density, all wrapped but a sappy, complex and lingering finale. This isn’t particularly refined but I very much like the depth and persistence and offers fine quality for its level.
Robert Parker 89-91
Bursting with aromas of raspberries, cherries, spices and rose petals, the 2018 Volnay Village is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and energetic, with powdery tannins and a bright core of fruit. This is an elegant, expressive wine that’s shaping up beautifully.
