The 2016 Cappella is bright and crystalline, with a real sense of energy running through it. I can’t remember ever tasting a wine from Cappella with this much pure tension. Dark cherry, plum, graphite, lavender and spice are all vivid in the glass. Tightly wound and energetic, the 2016 is likely to require a number of years to come into its own. A year ago the 2016 was much more powerful than it is today, when a more refined side of this St. Helena site takes center stage.
