Tasting Notes
Vinous 91
The 2015 Franc-Mayne is powerful and dense in the glass, with plenty of dark fruit, torrefaction, chocolate and new leather character. Silky tannins and a supple feel give the wine much of its near- and medium-term appeal. Although not especially complex, the 2015 will be easy to drink and enjoy pretty much upon release.
Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030
Robert Parker 93
The 2015 Franc-Mayne has a fresh black berry and wild strawberry-scented bouquet albeit with a patina of new oak still to be subsumed. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry with rounded red fruit, soft and plush in the mouth, but there is a decent backbone to this Franc-Mayne and it belatedly offers complexity toward the saline, quite minerally finish. In summary, this finishes better than it begins and leaves you feeling that it will eventually reach the potential that I envisaged from barrel. You are just going to have to wait longer than I initially predicted!
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2045
