Chateau Pedesclaux is a fifth growth estate, as ranked in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Based in Pauillac, the estate was founded in 1810 by Pierre Urbain Pedesclaux. After changing hands many times, the estate was looked after by Lucien Jugla and his family from 1950 until the start of the 21st century. In 2009 Pedesclaux was bought by Jacky Lorenzetti whose portfolio included Chateau Lilian Ladouoys and half of Chateau d’Issan. Lorenzetti set about renovating and expanding the estate’s 26 hectares so that today, Pedesclaux covers 48 hectares.

Pedesclaux started working with organic and biodynamic viticulture in 2012, and began the process of organic agriculture certification in 2019. After completing the enormous job of restructuring the vineyards and analysis of the soils – which are deep gravel, blended with clay and limestone in some places – the estate was replanted according to the best conditions for each grape variety. Pedesclaux’s vines are therefore split 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot.

Under Lorenzetti’s direction, a new 100% gravity-fed winery was designed and built by celebrated architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. All aspects of the winery are designed to preserve the aromas of Pedesclaux’s grapes, with the clarity in design of the building intended to be reflected in the clarity of their wines.
