Established in 1981 by Jeffrey Grosset in the historic town of Auburn in Clare Valley, Grosset quickly built a reputation as one of Australia’s top producers, particularly of Riesling. Located around 100km north of Adelaide, Grosset selected the site for his vineyards in a U-shaped slope in the Polish River sub-region. It is this area that gave name to his single vineyard, Polish Hill, which has been voted as one of the 25 greatest vineyards in the world. Polish Hill’s location mimics many of the conditions found in the leading Riesling areas of Germany, allowing Grosset to produce Australian Riesling that bridges old and new world styles.

In addition, Grosset has their Springvale and Rockwood vineyards which, along with Polish Hill, are A-Grade Certified Organic and Biodynamic. Futher, Grosset established the Grosset Gaia vineyard in 1986. This is the highest vineyard in Clare Valley and consists of two hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

Grosset is a family affair, with the fifth generation of the family having joined the winery. Production at Grosset is miniscule; with each of their single vineyards being handpicked, the focus remains on producing the greatest wine possible from each site. This benchmark producer appeals to both old world lovers of Riesling who recognise many of the melon, lime and mineral characteristics found in German Riesling, combined with herbs, lavender and a wonderful backbone of minerality that signifies the new world touch.
