With only 6 hecatres of vines – half owned, half rented – Domaine Claude Dugat is the cult Gevrey-Chambertin producer, known for producing some of the area’s most sought after wines with incredible quality. The domaine’s history starts with Claude’s father, Maurice, who purchased the Grange des Dimes in 1955. This historic building was constructed in 1219 and used by the locals to give donations such as grapes or grains to the church. Today, Claude’s children Bertrand, Laetitia and Jeanne help to run the domaine, remaining true to the style established by their father.

The size to quality ratio of the domaine is outstanding, enabling Dugat to produce wines from Premier Cru and Grand Cru sites, including Griotte-Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin. After being completely destalked, fermentation begins immediately with the grapes being punched down twice a day. Both the Premier and Grand Cru wines are barrelled in entirely new wood, whilst their Bourgogne and village Gevrey see old wood and 60% new with 40% one year old wood respectively. The Dugat approach produces famously rich, concentrated wines that benefit from years of cellaring yet are equally attractive in their youth.
