The historic Domaine Bernard Moreau lies in the Cote de Beaune village of Chassagne-Montrachet. Dating back to 1809, the domaine was expanded in the 1930s under Marcel Moreau. However it was his son, Bernard, who at the age of 14 took over the vineyards and cellars and shaped the domaine before, in 1977, giving the estate his name. Today, Bernard’s sons, Alex and Benoit, look after 14 hectares of vineyards which are mostly in Chassagne-Montrachet except for a few parcels in Saint-Aubin and Volnay. A ‘hands-off’ approach is taken across the board at Domain Bernard Moreau; no herbicides or pesticides are used, harvesting is done by hand, and natural yeasts in the grapes are used in the fermentation process. Old vines producing low yields means the domaine produces around 8,000 cases a year of opulent red and white Burgundies. Their most famous vineyards are its Premier Cru Les Grandes Ruchottes for the white wines and the Premier Cru La Cardeuse for the reds.
