An exciting new joint venture between Travis Braithwaite and Michel Rolland, Pangaea is a special allocation that has all the makings of a becoming a cult collectible: it’s truly unique, ultra-low production (just 2,250 bottles) and made by one of the most respected names in wine.
Getting your hands on the inaugural vintage is a particularly exciting prospect – Sine Qua Non’s first vintage in 1994 (Queen of Spades) now trades at £36,000 per case! On top of that, the wine is beautiful, presented in a luxurious hand crafted wooden case, and getting hold of an allocation today will also give you first refusal next year. With such low production, it will be very difficult for collectors to get new allocations in future vintages, making this a brilliant buy today.
The Wine
Pangaea 2015 has received very high praise when informally tasted blind, and the first three vintages are currently with a very highly-regarded wine critic who will be officially releasing their scores in due course. We tasted 2015, 2016 & 2017 at the UK launch dinner we co-hosted recently with Travis and the wines are truly amazing, so we are expecting very high scores from the critics. Pangaea contains grapes from some of the world’s finest plots, so naturally it is a wine built to last – Rolland considers that the greatest vintages will be capable of ageing for up to 50 years. That said, the 2015 is drinking magnificently already and definitely can be enjoyed immediately. As such we recommend taking enough to enjoy now, then more to age for the future. Each vintage of Pangaea is a unique expression and a different assemblage; the 2015 is Cabernet dominant containing 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 17% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot & 4% Cabernet Franc.
The Estate
Pangaea is the joint venture between South African winemaker, Travis Braithwaite and world renowned oenologist, Michel Rolland, also known as the ‘King of the Blend’. Michel and Travis have broken the boundaries and created a spectacular ‘Wine of the World’, by blending from some of the greatest wine growing sites all over the globe into one bottle. This truly unique collectible contains the finest Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, Merlot from Bordeaux, Malbec from Argentina, Petit Verdot from Spain & Cabernet Franc from South Africa.
Michel Rolland is considered by many as the ultimate modern winemaker. Holding the title of cellar master, oenologist and consultant, he advises more than 150 wineries in 13 countries including some of Napa Valley’s most highly regarded wineries, including Bryant Family, Harlan Estate, Dalla Valle Vineyards, and Screaming Eagle. As such, Pangaea has already caught the attention of many established collectors in the US, Europe, the Middle East & Asia.
