Following the release of Redigaffi 2012 yesterday, one of the world’s leading 100% Merlot wines, we are delighted to be able to offer Tua Rita’s classic Bordeaux Blend and signature wine Giusto di Notri 2012, which scored 92-94 points from Antonio Galloni. In addition we are pleased to offer Tua Rita’s Rosso di Notri made from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which at £11 in bond, or £16, duty and VAT paid offers incredible value, scoring 91 points from Galloni.

Giusto di Notri’s first vintage was in 1992 and as such this year they celebrate the 20th anniversary of their flagship wine. To mark the occasion they have adorned the 2012 bottle with a special label, designed by Raffaele De Rosa, see bottle above. Giusto di Notri offers superb value for money; made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Like Redigaffi the vines are grown 100 metres above sea level in Notri, Suvereto, where the soil is made up of medium textured clay and sand which helps retain water through the warm summers.

The Cabernet Sauvignon vines used in Giusto di Notri are grown on the higher plots where there is a greater pebble fraction, the Merlot is grown where the vineyards display more clay. In fact as Redigaffi is 100% Merlot, the best Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc parcels go into the wonderfully concentrated Giusto di Notri. The soil also has rich micro-elements of iron and zinc, which leads to wonderful minerality and fresh acidity. As with Redigaffi, Tua Rita spare no expense with Giusto di Notri, maturing it for 18 months in new and once used French oak barrique. After being bottled in the summer the wine then spends several months in bottle before being released to market. In total only 2,500 cases are made.

Giusto di Notri is a Super Tuscan in its own right, providing exceptional quality and providentially much more approachable than Redigaffi while young. Antonio Galloni awarded it 96 points in 2006 and 97 points in 2001. We recently tasted several vintages which are all of exceptional quality, each providing intense fruit with a complex nose, combining floral aromas with liquorice and leather; older vintages display a touch of mushroom. Giusto di Notri can be enjoyed immediately or cellared for 7-10 years.

We are very excited to offer Tua Rita’s Giusto di Notri 2012 for only £195 a half case, in bond. Giusto di Notri is undervalued when compared to Redigaffi, in many ways in its shadow. However it offers immense value and a more affordable way to drink the flagship Bordeaux-style blend from the great Estate of Tua Rita.

“The 2012 Giusto di Notri is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. Today, the purity and vibrancy of the fruit stand out most. The 2012 boasts superb intensity, no hard edges and superb balance. A finish laced with striking, perfumed aromatics rounds things out in style. The 2012 is shaping up to be magnificent.”

Rossi di Notri is Tua Rita’s entry level wine from their superb wine catalogue and embodies the precision, ideal terroir and superb wine-making that define this leading Estate. It is made from 50% Sangiovese, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. For £16 a bottle duty and VAT paid this is an incredible wine and Tua Rita make just over 6,000 cases a year, which represents their commitment to quality at this level. The grapes are taken from the same vineyards as Redigaffi and Giusto di Notri, however form the younger vines, although some older parcels are often included. I personally think this wine is enthralling for the price point and offers real quality for a wine that can be drunk now and that will age for five years. Galloni agrees awarding it 91 points and stating ‘Tua Rita’s 2012 Rosso di Notri is a stand out’. I took a case last year and have been enjoying it since!

“Tua Rita’s 2012 Rosso di Notri is a standout. Dark red cherry and plum notes meld into licorice, tobacco and smoke in a wine of power and length. Readers looking for a drop-dead gorgeous, delicious Maremma wine that won’t break the bank should check out the Rosso. In 2012, Rosso di Notri is 50% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah.”
