Last night James Suckling released his top five Riservas from the extraordinary 2010 Brunello di Montalcino vintage, each of which received 100 points. These are yet to be released to the market and we are delighted to offer a pre-release of the utterly stunning San Filippo Brunello di Montalcino ‘La Lucere’ Riserva. James Suckling has been the most prolific taster in Brunello this year and is the first to release his Riserva scores, saying, ‘If the quality of the 2010 Brunellos is any indication, the impending release of the Riservas will have Brunello lovers on the edge of their seats. Compared with the regular bottlings, the Riservas are more structured and tannic; prices are bound to spike when they are released into the market next year. I tasted about 70 this year in Tuscany.’
The 2010 Brunello Riservas will start releasing onto the market early next year and this 100 point wine will be in high demand indeed. The standard San Filippo Brunello di Montalcino was awarded an exceptional 97 points earlier this year, while their single vineyard Brunello ‘La Lucere’ was one of the elite Brunellos of the vintage, scoring 99 points from James Suckling, 96 from the Wine Advocate and 95 from the Wine Spectator. The ‘La Lucere’ vineyard is a selection of the highest plots in San Filippo, cited at between 270 to 310 metres above sea level. This vineyard skirts around the eastern hills of Montalcino in one of the very best locations, where the clay intermingles with marl and limestone. The wine is fermented in a blend of stainless steel, wood and cement before spending two years in French barriques.
Only 600 cases of ‘La Lucere’ were made in 2010, so it is rare indeed. It is one of the finest selections from truly one of the finest Brunello plots available. Priced at £33 per bottle, awarded 99 points and with a Price Over Points Ratio of 21, this special Brunello is a must own wine.
Suckling’s 100 point score awarded to the ‘La Lucere’ Riserva makes this wine special, it will be hugely sought after next year and with only 300 cases made, incredibly rare. Brunello di Montalcino Riservas are released in only the finest vintages and spend a sixth year at the Estate compared to the five years for the Brunello di Montalcino ‘normales’. This pre-release allows you the chance to secure a case before the general release and own a truly remarkable wine from a magnificent year. In Bordeaux we are used to spending £250 plus per bottle for a 100 point wine. ‘La Lucere’ Riserva is far rarer and can be secured today for under £80.

‘Amazing young Brunello with superb concentration and depth. Full body, chewy yet polished tannins and mineral, oyster shell and blueberry flavors. Goes on for minutes. Leave it until 2020 to open. A triumph.’
San Filippo Brunello di Montalcino ‘La Lucere’ 2010, 99 Pts James Suckling.
Aromas of crushed raspberries, cherries and blackberries expand your senses. There are also freshly sliced mushroom,s wet earth and bark. It’s full-bodied with an incredible depth of fruit and a savory, salty, almost grilled meat character. Layers and layers of fruit and tannins. A truly great wine. Better in 2020. 13th, 2015
