IG Wines is proud to present a Tuscan inspired dinner featuring the wines from the award winning Estate, Querciabella.

Querciabella is an Estate to get excited about. It is the closet thing to red Burgundy that Tuscany or the Sangiovese grape will probably ever produce. Yet, at the same time, it embodies a good deal of Bordeaux, however its heart remains firmly in Tuscany.

Its low production and terroir driven Burgundian nuance was the design of the late Giuseppe Castiglioni, who was part of the original Super Tuscan vanguard in the early 1970s. The progeny of his dream is their white wine Batar; white burgundy made in Tuscany. It is a stunning wine and we will be tasting two vintages, including the 1998, a special opportunity indeed. The dinner includes their 2011 Chianti Riserva and two of the greatest ever vintages of Camartina, the 96 point scoring 2010 and 95 point scoring 2004.

Camartina synthesises a Pauillac style power and complexity, without losing any of the earthy minerality and sweetness that help define the Super Tuscans. Today the Estate’s wines, in particular Camartina, are considered peers of Solaia, Tignanello and Fontodi Flaccianello. In fact Querciabella is part of the elite cadre of estates, which along with Tignanello and Solaia boast the acclaimed consultant Giacomo Tachis.

The Don, one of the most established restaurants in the City of London, has curated a special menu to complement the wines and we will be joined by Giorgio Fragiacomo from Querciabella.
