This morning Lynch Bages 2019 has released and it is one of the finest Lynch Bages ever made, awarded 96-97 from James Suckling, which places it alongside 2016 and 2009 and just behind their finest modern vintage the 2010. Lynch Bages rises in price perennially from barrel to bottle, due to its global acclaim, it has a strong traditional market in old Europe and the US. It was one of the earliest Bordeaux wines exported to Hong Kong; since 1989 it has been served in the First-Class cabin of Cathay Pacific Airlines, the international flag carrier of Hong Kong. Jean-Michel Cazes was one of the first proprietors to promote Bordeaux wines in Asia, travelling there for 20 years and cementing Lynch Bages’ brand globally. It is also one of the most powerful full-bodied wines, combining powerful rich tannins with tobacco and cedar; it takes years in the bottle to exhibit its true splendour, with top vintages capable of ageing for 30-50 years. As a result, Lynch Bages sees huge global demand and acclaim.

The release price today is £790 per case of 12, or £395 per six. This reflects a £278 reduction on the release of the 2018, a 25% discount. This gives it the lowest ever Price Over Points score (POP) of any modern vintage. Indeed, the average price of vintages since 2005 is £984 and as such today’s release provides 24% potential upside.

Lynch Bages is situated in the small sub-village of Bages, a wonderfully picturesque setting which contains their hotel and museum, as well as a delightful square; this is certainly one to visit. High on the west hill of the Pauillac region, the 90 hectares of vines are planted on deep gravel beds covered with limestone. Lynch Bages, originally classified as a Fifth Growth, is arguably the most dominant member of the Super Seconds.

In addition to Lynch Bages 2019 we are also pleased to release their second wine Echo de Lynch Bages which is known to inherit the rich tannins of Lynch Bages, whereas the fruit purity and power are by Echo. This has been released today for £275 per case of 12, or £137.5 per six, a 20% decrease on the 2018’s price of £350. Echo is a household favourite and brilliant value at £23 a bottle.
