Bodega Raffy was founded in 2007 by Jean-Louis Raffy, a university professor with a passion for wine, who fell in love with a high quality wine producing area in Tupungato, Uco Valley, Medonza. The vineyards of Bodega Raffy are located at 1250m (4000ft) above sea-level, benefiting from high sunlight intensity during the day; increasing grape colour and maturity and cooling winds during the night; preserving natural acidity and freshness of aromas. The higher the altitude, the higher the ultraviolet radiation, this helps to stimulate and create richer tannins, while the inclination of the slopes improves drainage. The terroir is a wonderful combination of stony, sandy and calcareous soil, which was formed during the Quaternary era by alluvial erosions of the Andes. They make three great wines, detailed below:

Grande Réserve 2010, 6×75 – £138, (17.5/20 JR)

Their Grande Réserve is harvested 100% manually, from 60 year old ungrafted vines at very low yields of 29 hectoliters/hectare; aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak. 17.5/20 ( Outstanding)

Bodega Raffy employs the world famous Marcelo Pelleriti as their winemaker, who received 100 points from Robert Parker for his Chateau La Violette 2010 and 99 points for his Chateau Le Gay 2010. Their son Guillaume Raffy, previously an investment banker with Citigroup, Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank left his career to become the Managing Director of Bodega Raffy, promoting their wines worldwide. The result of this ambition has been repaid; Bodega Raffy has climbed to stardom in only a couple of years since its inception.

The philosophy, winemaking and old vines comes together to create:  three wines displaying a dense colour of elderberry juice,  with intense fruit, beautifully sweet tannin with a wonderful nose of violets, spice, mocha, dense blackcurrants, raspberries, blueberries, damson, dark cherries, plum and lovely minerality. The finish is velvety, balanced and smooth: With age they will develop such flavours as leather, chocolate and espresso coffee.
