Following the release of the 2015 Guigal La Las, we are delighted to be able to offer Guigal d’Ampuis 2015. As posited last week, the 2015 vintage in the Northern Rhone is the finest in decades, long awaited and in extremely high demand. As one might expect from the greatest modern-day vintage, it has produced one of the highest ever scoring Guigal d’Ampuis, awarded 95-97 points from Joe Czerwinski of the Wine Advocate and 96-98 from Jeb Dunnuck, who calls it ‘deep, rich, massively concentrated, and a powerhouse of a wine that’s going to need bottle age, but wow, what a wine!’ The price today on release of £375 per case of six is excellent value, other vintages above 95 points trade at £500 plus. Guigal d’Ampuis is amongst the best value and truly great wines of the world, remarkable quality vs value. We also have magnums available, which are worth securing, few are made and they are highly sought after.

Guigal d’Ampuis has become a favourite of Rhone collectors, a sell-out wine that rises in price after release, showing very appealing vintage premium. This is hardly surprising, with only 2,000 cases made a year, which is roughly equivalent to the La Las taken together. Its incredible consistent world beating scores means that d’Ampuis is a must buy wine, both for its immense quality and its investment potential.

Guigal purchased the famous Chateau d’Ampuis in 1995, an ancient fort built in the 12th Century and transformed it into a Renaissance Chateau in the 16th Century style. In fact the Chateau is sited amongst great Cote Rotie vines and bordered by the Rhone River itself. It has become the headquarters of the Guigal Estate, while the cellars and offices remain in the small village of Ampuis.

What is most interesting is that around this privileged site heralds the famed La Las vineyards’; La Mouline, La Landonne and La Turque. Yet, alongside these three world famous single vineyard plots, Guigal owns seven other ancient plots which represent the best terroir of their Estate, each touching the vineyards of the La Las. The single vineyards of Le Grande PlanteeLe Clos and Le Garde surround La Mouline; La Pavillon RougeLe Moulin and La Pommiere surround La Turque and La Viria sits to the east of La Landonne. The vineyards around La Mouline have an average age of 80 years and contain a significant percentage of Viognier. The vines touching La Turque have a similar age, while La Viria was re-planted in 2000. It is also extraordinary to think there is only 600 metres that separate all of these vineyards.

These outstanding single vineyards are vinified and aged separately in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for four weeks and 38 months in a combination of 100% new French Barrique and Foudres.
