2017 was the year that Mother Nature decided to throw everything she had at Napa. From winter floods at the beginning of the year, excessive temperatures in May, long heat spikes in June, July and August, culminating in the devastating wildfires in October.
The favoured wines were those picked and fully fermented by the time the fires arrived. Some may not bottle but are going to age to see how they behave.
Screaming Eagle’s Nic Gislason stated “ I got to the vineyard early on Monday morning and tasted through the fruit. I knew right away it was gone.” Only The Flight will be bottled with no commercial release of the flagship wine.
